Wednesday Weigh-In # 6

Okay I am really shocked that today's weigh in is actually at 195.6 ... The past week has not been good and when I have weighed over the weekend I was pushing 200 so it has been scary, so I was really happy to see I was back to 195. Hopefully I will be able to stay focused this summer with all these barbeques and be able to hopefully get into the 180's. Good Luck Everyone.

Throughout the years, Blake has found his greatest joys and toughest challenges on the soccer field, the rock face, the gymnastics mat and in gyms through out the U.S. After he finished his education at USU and his employment with The Sports Academy and Racquet club where he helped clients lose hundreds of pounds of fat and gain several inches of muscle he became a top tier personal trainer at Equinox Fitness in Manhattan.

"I have to exercise in the morning before my brain figures out what I'm doing." - Marsha Doble

Wednesday Weigh-In #3

Okay, I almost thought about not weighing in, but decided I better do it anyways.... I weighed in at 196.4 ... So I gained, but I knew I would. 1st off I have eaten ice cream every night this past week, because my loving brother brought over 4 different kinds for our gaming party and left all the leftovers here, and ice cream is my biggest weakness. 2nd strike against me is mother nature is causing havoc in my body this week. I always gain 2-3 pounds when she decides to through my hormones out of whack for a week each month.

Well Good Luck to the rest of you... hoping that next week will be better for me.

Also I am sorry these Wednesday weigh-ins keep getting posted on a thursday, but it is still my wednesday since I don't get home from work until now. Any of you are also welcome to start the Wednesday weigh-in post if you get on here before I get the chance to.

frustrations of working out.

We can't afford a gym membership so I have to work out at home. My problem is I try to work out and the kids start fighting or Payton starts crying or I need to keep an eye on the kids so they don't touch the treadmill. For me working out is supposed to be a time of releasing frustrations and calming your self. Lets just say I'm not calm when I do work out. If I find time to work out it's maybe 20 min before I need to quit. I just don't enjoy it at all. When I had a gym membership I loved it and went everyday. I would just put my kids in the daycare (They loved it there) and run my little heart out. Just needed to vent. I hope I get it all figured out.

Wednesday Weigh-In #1

Sorry I know it is Thursday, but yesterday was crazy and I didn't get the chance to add this post. I did weigh-in yesterday though, so I can still post it just a day late.

I will post weigh-ins every Wednesday about 3:00 pm. So if you would like to join in the weigh-ins, you can either leave me an email or text message what your weigh-in for the week is and I will do one post with everyone's information on it, or you can add your own weigh-in post, or you can leave a comment on someone elses weigh-in post with your weigh-in for the week. You can either post your current weight or how many pounds you gained or lost from the week. Whichever you feel comfortable posting.

This past weekend was not good for me on the weight factor. Randy and I went out of town for our anniversary and I ate pretty much anything I wanted to. So unfortunately I gained a few pounds. I weighed in at 197.3 lbs this week. I need to focus and do better next week.

Good Luck to all of you on this weeks weigh-ins.

My Weight Loss Story So Far

Here is my weight loss story so far. I just wanted to share it with all of you so that we can better give each other the support we may need. Hopefully our stories will give a little bit or a lot of encouragement to others who may be suffering or trying the same strategies.

Okay, I have been trying for a few years to lose weight and get back in shape. I am not sure what was my heaviest weight, but my first recorded weight was back in January of 2006. I weighed 265 lbs. In April of that year my mother-in-law and I joined curves. In the 4 months that I was able to pay the fees for curves membership, I lost 17 lbs and was stuck at the weight of 248 lbs. In October of 2007 I joined Weight Watchers. On May 22, 2008 my weight was recorded at 238 lbs. At the beginning of the year 2009, we bought a membership to Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center to help incooperate exercise with eating correctly to hopefully help with the weight loss. After about 4 faithful months and very little change, I quit both of those programs. Then in July of 2009 I started the HCG diet. I weighed in at 240 lbs when I started it and then after my 60 days of following the diet, I weighed in at 212 lbs. And then this brings you almost up to date. The following is a part of a post I posted to my personal blog on March 26, 2010:
Good Bye 200
I have tried many different approaches throughout the past 6 years. On January 8th of this year, a group of us started a small weight lose support group. We meet every Friday morning at 10:00 am. When we started on the 8th of January, we took our weight and measurements. I weighed 215 lbs, measurements were waist - 48 1/2 inches, chest - 44 1/2 inches, left arm - 12 1/2 inches, right arm - 13 inches, left thigh - 27 inches and right thigh - 27 inches. At the beginning of March we took our measurements again and they were waist - 39 1/2 inches, chest - 42 1/2 inches, left arm - 12 inches, right arm - 13 inches, left thigh - 25 inches and right thigh - 24 1/2 inches. This morning I weighed in at 195.7 lbs.My goal has been to get below the 200 lb mark and to keep it off. I have weighed every morning when I wake up for a year now. My morning weight in just my underwear has been below 200 lbs for a little over a month now, but I didn't count that weight, because I wanted to be below 200 lbs when fully clothed in the mid afternoon. Now my new goal is to get down to 180 lbs.

I am planning on recording my weigh ins weekly from now on. I am hoping to hear from you guys and your stories also. I am going to use Wednesdays as Weigh-Ins, so I will update you all on this Wednesdays Weigh-In.

HCG and hello!

Hi everyone! My name is Steph, and I came upon your blog through Lu, who is friends with Daphne(for years, and years, i think.lol) Lu is my partner and in the over two years we have been together, we have packed on the pounds.lol I have some health issues that i can try to say have helped me gain, but i really think it was the cooking that i was doing for Lu and our girls.Lu says she loves to keep me in the kitchen (jokingly). I always cook something up, and we love to make/eat sushi! Sushi is really our downfall! Sad, but it's so delicious, and that makes for a fattening habit!

We recently came across HCG, and had heard from two of Lu's aunts that they had done it, and it really worked for them. I researched it, and we got the drop and away we went.
I started off great on what's called the loading days (days one and two) where you eat everything you want to get your body the calories you are going need to trick your body. Well... the next phase was VLCD, which is the VERY LOW CALORIE DIET phase. You take the drops, and stick to a strict diet regimen. 500 Calories per day. The drops make it so your body doesn't store the fat, and actually burns it instead.. that's where the trickery comes in!
This was almost impossible, and i was used to eating anything i wanted, and so all i thought about was food, and ended up wanting to cheat! I thought that I could never get past this phase... everyone kept saying.. "oh the first days are the hardest" uhh... no, EVERY day was the hardest! lol

After awhile, Lu's mom found out we were doing the HCG and she lent us a book all about Dr Simeon, and the HCG diet.
I read it, and realized we were doing it all wrong! There was a whole stage we were missing. It was the "getting your body ready for this diet, and cleansing/detoxing you body first" phase.
Lu and I agreed to start over and complete the REAL phase one and did the cleansing, drank the teas, cut sugar slowly, and stopped eating and drinking things that were processed. What?? no more mt dew?? eeks!

This made phase 2 so much easier.
We are now in the second week of phase 2 and are doing wonderful. We are not starving all the time, we eat way healthier, and we are actually excited about the idea of having to remember to eat. We have consistently dropped weight... and have a new love for trying to get healthy. We work together as a team to find recipes to make so we are not stuck with the few that the HCG program gives you. Lu actually says she has been eating better, taste-wise, than most people she knows, AND it's under 300 calories a meal!I have eaten so many apples! Apples are my go to snack if I need a pick-me-up, and i have learned to love them!

I wanted to share my weight, but I will skip Lu's until she tells ya! lol When I met Lu, i think i was like 270-280. It was the highest I have ever been. I delivered my daughter at 280!!!
Well as the years went on, I have put on the weight. I hurt my back really bad, have heart issues, and now I have fibromyalgia.. i have had plenty of excuses to not work out! lol

So... I started this HCG diet at 223. I think I was even a little higher before we started to really track it. I have my measurements around here somewhere, lol, but i know my largest measurement was at 52 inches!
I have never weighed that much, ever!!

So I am happy to say that I have lost almost 20 lbs!!! On the scale today (May 20th) it said 202.2 !
Lu has lost about the same, and we are so stoked!

I wanted to know what you all think of HCG, and what are you all doing to get healthy!
I look forward to getting to know you all, and learning more about all of you...
I hope this post was okay to post.. not sure how this all works!
Daphne, please let me know if it's not! :)

Good luck to all of us, and talk to you soon!

Steph

Orzo Salad

I stole this recipe from a friends blog (Thanks Em), because it looked and sounded really good. I love salads, so here is one I will have to try.
ORZO SALAD
1 lb. orzo cooked and drained
1/2 c. spinach, julienned. *if you take the spinach leaves and trim the ends and stack them on top of each other you can roll them into a little log and cut it and you have little spinach confetti pieces.*
3 medium sized tomatoes, diced
one small onion, diced finely
1 tablespoon of capers
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese ( I used the powdered kind but it actually called for grated)
1 small can of sliced olives
1 clove of garlic minced1 c. light Italian salad dressing
season with salt and pepper.
- Ok, first you cook the pasta and drain it. Add the spinach, tomatoes, onion, capers, olives, and garlic. Mix in the dressing and then add the cheese last. Refrigerate till ready.

Reaching and Maintaining your goal

Hello All,

I don't know any of you, as I am a distant relative of Daphne (whom I haven't had the chance to meet as of yet), but she asked me to contribute a bit here as I lost 50 lbs. about two years ago and have successfully kept it off. Not sure how much to share in an initial post, but here goes:

I was always thin as a teenager and even after my kids were born. I never had to watch what I ate and I never exercised. I just never realized how active I was. So when my activity level dropped, and I had developed poor eating habits, the weight crept on. I tried many of the 'diets' and pills, losing a little here and there, then regaining all if not more when I stopped. I reached a weight of at least 170 lbs, I was a size 12-14 and I'm a shorty at only 5'4". I had an epiphany about two years ago that no one was going to do this for me, and that I am the only one who can take control of my life (this also applied to other things in my life, including my marriage, which led to my divorce). I have to admit that there are two TV shows that really seemed to have an impact on me - The Biggest Loser and What Not to Wear! I took to heart the eating style I needed to have and completely changed my eating habits. I also went through five sizes of clothes and had to replace my entire wardrobe except for my shoes!

It really it a simple process, but it takes consistency and dedication to acquire the new habits. I started by just making better choices. Grilled v. fried, steamed veggies v. fries, brown rice v. white rice, etc. And for the first time in my life I got onto a treadmill. I started walking fast for 2.5 miles at 4.5 miles per hour. When that became easy I went to 5 mph, then 5.5, etc. I averaged about 1.5 lbs per week weight loss, and lost 50 lbs. in seven months. I went from a size 14 to a size 4 - a size I haven't been since before my kids were born and a size I never imagined I would ever see again! I now weigh about 125 lbs.

I can now run at 7 mph, but have decided to ease back to 6.5 and increase my distance to a full 5K (3.1 miles) as many days a week as I feel like doing it. But I find that by keeping my eating habits the same, I don't have to work out that much to keep it off. I heard someone say one time that 'Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels' and I can attest that some things just aren't worth the time I know I would have to put in to get it back off! I am actually thinking of doing a triathlon this summer. I've never had a problem swimming or riding a bike, and now that I've been running for two years, I think I could handle the run segment.

Dr. oz

I don't know who out there watches Dr.Oz, but I love the show. Any way. Every now and then he has people on there that have lost weight. He has them share there recipe's and how they did it. Then he posts the recipes on line. There are some good recipes in there and most of them are easy to make. Here is the web site.

running

Ive started running every other day. It feels so good. I just made a new time on my mile. I ran the mile in 12 min. Trust me that good. I started out at 18 min and that was just one month ago. I have also lost 5lbs in two weeks. It feels good to see progress. It's allot of work and it's so hard not to eat what I make for my kids but I look at the food and I think "it it worth it." It's so not worth it I would love to healthy and back in shape not just for me but for my family.

So I am going to try and post a thought about exercise, health or something along those lines on thursdays. Some may be serious remarks from famous people and others can be funny quotes from cartoons. Lets all enjoy a little thought from time to time to give us some motivation.

Daphne's Starting Weight & Measurements

A group of us use to meet every friday morning, but now because of work schedules and people moving, we no longer are capable of doing this. This is one reason why I started this blog so we could still support each other even without meeting in one location. During these friday support groups we would weigh in on the wii fit. We also took our measurements once a month.

So here are my measurements and weight to start this blog with:

April 23 - 194 lbs
March Measurements - waist: 39 1/2 inches, chest: 42 1/2 inches, left arm: 12 inches, right arm: 13 inches, left thigh: 25 inches and right thigh: 24 1/2 inches

Now since every scale is different, my weight may jump drastically this first week. Please make sure that when you do your weigh ins that you do them about the same time of day every week, wear the same type of clothing and that you use the same scale.

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Welcome

I have seen many people start these fitness blogs to help keep track of their progress in their own stride to healthy lifestyles, but I thought I would start one where many of us can use it to help motivate each other and to share our success and failures.
We can use this blog to document our weigh ins, since it is difficult for all of us to meet at one location on any one day of the week. We can share yummy healthy recipes we may have found, Activities to do around town to help stay active and fit (5K links, aerobics classes, sports), Fun Quotes to help motivate us and any other information you would normally share with a support group to help you and others succeed in our quest for healthy living.
I ask that as you leave posts to add a label for easier navigating later on. Label examples can be: recipes, weigh ins, 5K, thoughts & quotes, success stories, etc.....
If you know of anyone else who would be interested in sharing and joining us, please let me know so I can send them and invite to be an author.
